Fresh snowfall disrupts air, vehicular traffic to and from Srinagar
SRINAGAR: All flights to and from Srinagar International airport were cancelled due to poor visibility and continuous snowfall for the ninth consecutive day on Friday, an official said. Fresh snowfall further deteriorated the already disrupted vehicular traffic movement to and from Srinagar, which has been reeling under inclement weather and dense fog for more than a week now.
Authorities, however, managed to ensure a smooth supply of power across Kashmir Valley and clear the main roads and bylanes of accumulated snow.
Traffic movement was suspended on the Srinagar-Jammu highway due to heavy snowfall at Banihal, Qazigund and other areas. Continuous snowfall along the highway resulted in the accumulation of snow on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel, as a result of which authorities halted traffic movement, keeping in mind the safety of commuters.
MeT officials said a minimum temperature of -1°C was recorded in Srinagar, -0.9°C in Pahalgam and -3.6°C in Gulmarg on Friday. Jammu city recorded 8.5°C, Katra 6.4°C, Read More – Source
