Calling all running fanatics: Nike's just launched a new running trainer

It being the end of January, your new year’s fitness resolutions are probably flagging.

And you know the best remedy for rebooting those ambitions? New stash.

Thankfully, Nike has just released a new pair of running trainers – this time featuring the latest in foam technology to make sure every stride is properly protected.

The Nike React is part of what Nike calls its ‘cushioning revolution’, and is also the label’s most tested shoe.

In fact, the React has pounded over 17,000 miles by elite runners – so you can bet your bottom dollar that it’ll withstand your Park Run or half marathon attempts.

So what’s so special about this particular trainer?

Well, compared to its predecessor (the Lunar Epic 2), the React is 5% lighter, 11% softer and offers 10% greater energy return.

According to Ernest Kim, Director of Advanced Footwear at Nike Running, ‘Nike React is more durable than any other foam we’ve tested in Nike running, meaning it will keep up with the needs of even the most dedicated distance runners’.

Nike React has been born out of runners telling Nike that they wanted better cushioning in their running shoes.

Better cushioning means less impact on the joints of road running. And as anyone who’s run a marathon will tell you, long distance running can absolutely ruin your knees and ankles.

But that doesn’t mean that these shoes will have you bouncing around uncontrollably. It’s all about balance.

‘Think about your pillow — when you’re laying your head down to go to sleep, you don’t want it to bounce back up after it hits the pillow,’ Earnest explains.

‘Instead, you want that pillow to absorb all of the force of you laying your head down so that you can get a good night’s sleep. That’s what we mean when we talk about great cushioning.’

The Nike Epic React is out 22 February and will cost £130.
