Dozens of cows were killed after a cattle lorry crashed on a busy motorway in the US on Wednesday.

The lorry, which was driving at 45mph, crashed on an overpass in Riverdale, Utah.

At least 25 cows fell out of the truck onto the road below, hitting passing cars, according to local station KUTV.

Most of the cows died, and were seen lying lifeless in pools of blood across the road.

Emergency services workers said they didn’t know exactly how many cows were killed in the crash.

Commuter Kerri Kofoed said she was driving to work in Layton when ‘a cow fell out of the sky and hit my car’.

‘A big, black blob came flying at my windshield and the next hting I knew my airbags deployed and I slammed into the median wall,’ she told KSL.

‘He fell and hit me right here, smacked my windshield and bounced off. I did what anybody would do – slammed on my brakes.’
