Snapchat fans could soon see a very familiar feature crop up in Facebook Messenger.

The social network is testing out a ‘streaks’ function that’s similar to the hyper-addictive Snapchat feature.

Anyone who uses Snapchat will probably have seen a little flame emoji pop up if they send a picture to a mate within 24 hours for more than three consecutive days.

But now some Facebook Messengers users have been told they’ve started a streak after messaging friends for just two days in a row.

Twitter user Case Sandberg tweeted about Messenger streaks, which have also been spotted by other users.

It’s not clear how many people are involved in testing Facebook streaks, or whether it will be rolled out to all users across the world.

Zuckerberg’s social network recently introduced a feature which resembles Instagram Stories.

Stories let users create a timeline of images and video to illustrate their day, with followers able to view it for up to 24 hours.

Facebook is always looking for ways of encouraging people to share more using its platform.

This would mean that people are less likely to choose to use the social network to bang on about every single detail of their lives or share endless pictures of their dog, children or evening meal.

This, in turn, makes it harder for Facebook to learn about people and show them adverts they are likely to engage with.

Streaks are notoriously addictive, so it’s likely they will keep people using Messenger and stop them using products from rivals like Snapchat.

Here’s how Facebook can guess your sexuality using three very simple bits of info.
