Ousted Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont and four colleagues have handed themselves in to police in Belgium.
The Brussels prosecutor's office confirmed that the region's former president and his sacked ministers surrendered after Spain issued a warrant for their arrest.
"They were deprived of their liberty at 9.17am (8.17am UK time)," the prosecutors office said.
A Spanish national court issued European Arrest Warrants for the five separatist politicians on suspicion of sedition, rebellion and embezzlement on Friday.
Eight of their former Catalan regional government colleagues have already been imprisoned without bail while the investigation continues.
