Don’t you just hate it when you wake up and find someone has dumped an entire house in your field?
Yes, we do too.
But someone who hates it a little more is Patrick Maze – mainly because it actually happened to him.
The Canadian man was walking past his land on his way to work when he first spotted the large property.
Posting a picture on Facebook, he said: ‘Have any of you ever found a house?’
He added: ‘So I’ve never run into this situation before, but maybe my Facebook friends have, so I am reaching out for some guidance.
‘Perhaps someone stole it and took it for a joy ride, then ditched it on my property? There was no one in it, so I don’t think it’s a bold move by squatters.
‘If I put a basement under it would I be able to keep it, under ‘finders-keepers’ laws?
‘If you know someone who has lost a house, let me know. Of course, they must identify it before they can take it.’
The odd post was shared more than 270 times and then eventually… the owner came forward.
Brenda Robertson replied on the thread explaining it was actually her newly bought home.
She said: ‘That’s my house. There was a problem with the permits.
‘They were 20 km from my place. Sask power stopped them and wouldn’t let them continue on. So I was told that they were going back to Winnipeg where it was built.
‘It’s quite a surprise to see my house on your land.’
We imagine Patrick was surprised too, Brenda.Let's
