Jurgen Klopp believes his side are well equipped for the season ahead

Wednesday, November 1, 2017

Jurgen Klopp commended his side’s attacking strength as Liverpool ran out comfortable winners over Maribor at Anfield.

The Reds were sloppy in the first half but found their breakthrough when Mohamed Salah flicked on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s menacing cross on 49 minutes.

Moments later, James Milner had a penalty saved before Emre Can doubled Liverpool’s advantage with a sweeping finish on the edge of the box following some neat interplay.

Substitute Daniel Sturridge added a third late on as Jurgen Klopp’s side finished the night at the top of Group E.

And the German insisted that despite their victory not being the most convincing, his players are well equipped for the season ahead.

Klopp said: “We have everything we need and I try not to talk about players when we lose a game.

“We have four of the most creative midfielders in the league with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Adam Lallana and Gini Wijnaldum.

“The players have to do the job on the pitch when you’ve planned but my players know what they need to do, but I believe we are better equipped because we are more used to attacking.”

Milner’s penalty miss was Liverpool’s second miss from the spot in two games, but Klopp did not seem to be worried about it.

He said: “After you win a game it’s not a big concern but of course you don’t like to miss penalties but I thought the penalty was a good one. It was a fantastic save.

“Our last penalty against Huddersfield was not too creative. Roberto missed one before as well. We will find another player to take our penalties."
